Time: 45-60 minutes
Equipment: The school needs to have an overhead projector and screen.
This workshop focuses on more sophisticated writing elements:
• Using detail to flesh out a character
• Developing dialogue that showcases “voice”
• The writers’ famous adage, ”Show, Don’t Tell”
• How actions show a character’s true feelings
• Conflict and Resolution
Using pictures books as examples of great writing, students will study these various elements. We will take this new information and create a project centering around a character that incorporates all we’ve learned. Each student will leave with a unique, original, well-developed character to use in future writing projects.
